We met Crystal Thomas on a stormy St Kilda night on a dark Fitzroy St corner – actually it was a sunny morning and we met at The Pelican, but I’m trying to set the tone here. We wanted to chat to her about the launch of her second album “A Chance in Hell”. This is what she told us.

Are we right in saying there were a few people involved in producing “A Chance in Hell”? First and foremost, the Iconic Melbourne-based label, Off the Hip, is releasing the album. The album is co-produced by Spencer P Jones and Matt Walker. I co-wrote most of the album with Spencer P Jones, Matt Walker and Matt Green, but we worked a lot of the songs up at rehearsal before the recording session, so the band have had input into the song structure as well as the album’s sound and feel. This recording felt like more of a band project than a solo project and there was a great team of people who have been involved.

I haven’t washed my dreams
My dreams just gather dust
My sleeping world of nightmares
Is cluttered by my wanderlust
My wanderlust

In my wake the death card
That life dealt me that day
It gave you what you wanted
While I was washed away
Washed away
Washed away
Washed away

Though my heart stopped beating
I celebrate your life
You got away with murder
While I was left holding the knife
Holding the knife

And now this life is haunted
By the ghost of life itself
And the living always hurt you
But a ghost ‘aint got a chance in hell
A chance in hell
A chance in hell
A chance in hell

The skeleton has a knotted spine
Knee joints ribs and bones
Among the wreaths of flowers
Where we once stood, I’m standing alone
Standing alone
Standing alone
Standing alone
